Dwight D. Eisenhower said of a sense of humor, "A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done." And I have to toatally agree. Being able to laugh at ourselves, or at a situation can make sitaution tolerable and bearable. Lester (Alan Alda), in the movie Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) a crass, hugely successful television producer, says that ''comedy is tragedy, plus time'', my friend Dean has since started using this line as a mantra. I have found that it is true though. In time the worst situation can become funny! Hindsight is very wonderful and powerful thing, and in the trying times if we can remember Dean's Mantra, and lighten up a little, realizing that one day we will be laughing about this, it can make dealing with the troubles much easier!
"You can't shake hands with a clenched fist." - Indira Gandhi
True friendship consists not in the multitude of friends, but in their worth and value. -Ben Jonson
We like life to be a party. We like having a social calendar filled with events. We find self worth in meaningless barameters, such as the number of friends we have in Facebook or Followers on Twitter. We want to have many "friends" clamoring for our attention. We need to feel wanted, and the more people who seem to like us the better. We give value to the meaningless, and guage our own self-worth on external indicators.
